Abhyangam has three types of techniques (Pizhichil, Thirumbal and Uzhichil) which are massage techniques with comfortable strokes in a synchronized way by using medicated oils. It relaxes, nourishes and revitalizes the body tissues. It is a whole body massage customized to body type achieves deepest healing effects by naturally harmonizing Body, Mind and Spirit.

It is a special Ayurvedic treatment that provides relaxation to eyes and also improves the eyesight. In this treatment freshly made dough rings are formed around the eyes and medicated ghee (clarified butter) is filled till the eyelashes are covered.

Swedana means perspiration refers to the process that makes body to sweat. Herbal mixtures are prepared with various herbs and medicated powders are used for Swedana. The entire body is massaged with these mixtures after they are warmed in medicated oils. This promotes circulation and increases perspiration of the body thus resulting the skin to eliminate the wastes and so the skin tone improves.

Nadis are not nerves but rather channels for the flow of consciousness. The literal meaning of nadi is "flow". Just as the negative and positive forces of electricity flow through complex circuits, in the same way, prana shako (vital force) and manas shako (mental force) flow through every part of our body via these nadis. According to the tantras there are 72,000 or more such channels or networks through which the stimuli flow like an electric current from one point to another. This basti, also called nabhi basti (navel basti), is applied to the umbilical region. Hot oil wash here acts on the solar plexus and balances the digestive fire. Use it for indigestion, gas, and constipation. Emotionally, it facilitates the release of deeply seated emotions.

Specially prepared warm herbal oil poured over the back of the head and neck (at Cervical region) and retained inside on herbal paste boundary for 30-45 minutes. The healing properties of herbal oils used for this massage deeply penetrates into the cervical discs and nerves (From C1 – C7) and enriches the blood circulation, reduces the herniation and inflammation, maintains strong muscles and connective tissues and also lubricates the joints keeping them flexible and pain free.

Hrid basti, hrud basti, are other names for hridya basti, which involves building a flour dam (like an oil tank) a top the Chest over the heart (hridya=heart). This therapy at hridya marma helps nourish, strengthen, and balance heart functions, and rejuvenate the heart. It strengthens the heart muscle and increases the contractile force of the heart. It prevents the Ischemic heart disease, cardiomyopathy, Cardiomegaly and congestive heart failure as Hridaya Basti helps in slow Vaso dilation. Many heart problems involve pitta dosha, and so warm, medicated oil or ghee is applied on the chest and allowed to stay for thirty to forty-five minutes. This is also an effective treatment for asthma and other respiratory problems. This treatment relieves deep seated anger and sadness. Give it a try for frozen shoulder, too.

The healing properties of herbal oils used in this massage deeply penetrates in the knee joints and enriches the blood Circulation, maintains strong muscle and connective tissues (ACL) and lubricates the joints over the menisci keeping them flexible and pain free

Karna means ear, and pooranam means filling. Filling the ears with warm medicated oil is called Karna Pooranam. This treatment helps relieve the dizziness, TMJ issues and Meniere's disease.

Specially prepared warm herbal oil based on the body dosha type is poured over the lower back and retained inside on herbal dough tank for 30 - 45 minutes. The healing properties of the warm herbal oil used in this massage deeply penetrates into the lower back area, particularly at the Lumbar Spine (between L1 – L5 and Sacral joint). It enriches the blood circulation to stimulate the nerve pulses to continue the signal from hip to toe nerves and maintains strong muscle and connective tissues and also lubricates the joints keeping them flexible and pain free. The Nasya Tharpana is a specialized treatment specifically for the head, nose and neck. The oil used for Shirobasti therapy is prepared depending on the individual’s body (Dosha) type as well as the disorder to be gradually healed.

Valukaswedanam is a performed with river sand and sea salt. Generally, here sand is washed, dried and wrapped in cloth bundles. It is kept warm on a hot plate and is gently applied to and massaged on different parts of the body for around 30 minutes.
