A Car Inspection Checklist before A Road Trip

We all have grown up on a staple diet of Hollywood movies, where a broken car midway often acts as the door to an exciting adventure. Sadly the reality is different. Faulty car or a sudden breakdown only means you would be required to wait for endless hours in the middle of nowhere for your insurance company or some friend to rescue you. Add to that, the disappointment of not being able to make it to your destination.

• Tires are the most common part of the car which often betrays us midway. Nothing can be worse than a flat tire. So before you begin your road trip, schedule an appointment with your nearest car repair shop and make sure there are no visible signs of major wear and tear on the tires, which can lead to leakage.  Check the air pressure in them and inflate them, if required.


• While driving on a highway, brakes often act as the life savior for many people. Keep an eye on your brake pads and check regularly to see, how much life is left in them. Replace the brake fluid at regular intervals to make sure they remain free from all types of impurities.


• Imagine driving in Florida in the month of May or June, with the air conditioner turned off. Not very pleasant, right? If you want to avoid such a situation, you should check the coolant system, change the old fluid and replace worn out parts like radiator or water pumps.  It would not only increase the effectiveness of the coolant but can also reveal any leakage or damage in the system, which can be a major reason, behind your car not cooling sufficiently.


• The suspension system comes fourth in the car service checklist. Check the system thoroughly for damaged parts. If any shocks or struts need to be replaced do it and you would feel the difference in no time


• Check your transmission system and make sure it is functioning properly. A faulty car transmission can spoil your road trip in a big way. Problems related to the transmission cannot be solved by an individual and requires a dedicated car service shop, which may not be easy to find on a highway.


• Last but not the least, check the car seat belt.  Dysfunctional seat belts would not only incur heavy fines but also can prove to be fatal in the event of any road accident
