Punjabi Wedding Menu: The Most Popular Dishes

Punjabi weddings are known not only for their ardent celebrations and heavy consumption of alcohol (well, mostly!) but these weddings also offer guests a chance to eat some of the most sumptuous preparations in North India.
North-Indian Food Catering services generally have a reserved set of dishes, which are known to be favorites in the Punjabi community. A Punjabi wedding menu does not amount to much without the following dishes:
Samosa Chaat
This is the variant of a popular Indian street food known simply as Chaat. It features a plate of smashed samosas along with chole masala, peas and other vegetables. Lemons are added as well for a tangy flavor. This is one of the most popular starters in North India.
Murgh Malai Tikka Kababs
Nothing beats the Murgh Malai Tikka Kababs when it comes to non-vegetarian starters, and the North-Indian Food Catering service providers understand this well. This popular starter involves barbecuing chicken marinated in cheddar, cream, flavors, herbs and thick yogurt.
Aloo Gobhi
An almost permanent fixture in any Punjabi wedding is Aloo Gobhi. A vegetarian main course dish, Aloo Gobhi features potatoes and cauliflowers, along with certain Indian spices. It almost always has a yellowish tinge thanks to turmeric use. Curry leaves and kalonji are also used from time to time.
Dal Makhani
Moving on to the main course fare, Dal Makhani is part and parcel of nearly every Punjabi wedding and features a curry of lentils, with a lot of butter and/or cream.
Sarson ka Saag
Leafy vegetables like fenugreek, radish leaves and spinach are combined with mustard leaves in this renowned vegetarian dish, which takes a long time to prepare. Garnishes and spices are added to the leaf paste as well.
Naan
No Punjabi wedding is complete if it does not have Naan on its menu. Naans are made using maida or wheat flour, and stuffing them with various vegetables or other edibles. Popular variants of Naan are Butter Naan, Onion Naan and Paneer Naan.
Butter Chicken
Murgh Makhani or Butter Chicken is perhaps included in every Punjabi wedding menu because of its popularity. The dish features chicken in a moderately spiced curry sauce.
Mutton Rogan Josh
Famed not just in Punjabi weddings but also in many other weddings across Northern India, Mutton Rogan Josh is renowned mainly for its curry, which can be spicy, but very fragrant as well.
Karhai Chicken
Another popular spicy chicken dish is the Karhai Chicken, which features chicken quickly fried in a wok, and then cooked in a variety of traditional spices. Combining this dish with Naan is recommended.
Gajar ka Halwa
Talking of Indian desserts, nothing is probably more popular than Gajar ka Halwa, which is prepared with carrots, sugar and milk in a deadly (but deliciously) sweet combination.
Kulfi
Kulfi is a sweet frozen dessert and is especially popular among children.
Most Punjabi weddings are sure to have the aforementioned items thanks to North-Indian Food Catering services, along with other tasty options!
