The microwave oven made its appearance in the last century and gradually over the years it has changed the concept of food being cooked heated or baked. It is basically a single instrument which can do the work of an oven, grill and gas top in a combined way with minimum human intervention. Like any sophisticated equipment, this instrument too needs adequate care and maintenance to ensure the risk of any accident is minimized and the machine works at its optimum capacity.

Below is a list of certain basic steps which you should follow to ensure that your microwave is properly maintained.

Microwave Utensils – Like ovens, microwaves too need dedicated microwave proof bowls and utensils that can be placed inside the machine. Any kind of steel or metal utensils can lead to spark and tarnish the inner part of the machine. It is always advisable that you keep the mouth of the utensils open during microwave cooking. If you are baking something, then use dedicated baking tray or grilling sticks, instead of using aluminum foils. It can lead to big kitchen fires. In case there is any damage, do not attempt to open the interiors of the machine all by yourself. Call your nearest microwave oven service center or contact a home appliance repair technicians in case of emergency at the earliest.

Never Use it Empty– Do not ever attempt to run your microwave, when it is empty. In the absence of any food or liquid, the energy would bounce on the walls and cause significant damage, which is usually very expensive to repair.

Close The Door and Use Proper Timer – Before you operate the microwave oven, make sure you close the door properly and place your food and drinks right at the middle of the equipment to ensure the food is properly heated. In case you are trying to cook anything, try using the factory preset cook timer or every meal. It would ensure that you do not overcook or undercook the dish and also reduces the need to check on the dish at regular intervals. Also remember do not open the microwave door while the machine is running. It brings the machine to an abrupt halt which may require the services of a home appliance repair technician.

Use a Surge Suppressor – Although the chances of a surge shock hitting your appliance are rare, yet it is always better to be safe rather than sorry. Use a surge suppressor to absorb any shock and save both money and time by avoiding a run to the microwave oven service center.

Last but not the least, always keep your microwave clean and power off the machine when not in use to ensure the machine is able to last long and perform well without the need for nay service or repair.
