From the Business:Laura Selenzi and Monique Ryan spent years dreaming Serpentine Studios into reality, envisioning a space where people come to explore movement, discover belly dance, and join a vibrant and supportive community. With over 20 years of training each, Monique's Tribal Fusion and Laura's Classic Egyptian background combine to create a unique and hypnotic style that has delighted audiences across Canada since 2003. After years of "Cabaret Serpentine" working together to produce popular annual shows, classes, workshops, and bringing international belly dance luminaries to the Maritimes, the duo realized their goal of opening Serpentine Studios as of 2011 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The studio is now celebrating its 7th year as a driving force in Halifax's creative dance and movement scene. Monique's passion for movement started at an early age, taking gymnastics classes, skipping rope, and holding her very own cheerleading practice in her basement. She began studying bellydance in 1998, and performed with several local bellydance troupes. After discovering Tribal Fusion bellydance, Monique started traveling to train with some of the art forms greatest stars. She has studied circus arts with Atlantic Cirque since 2004, and performs with them regularly. Monique was one the original members of the Halifax Burlesque Society, the city's first Burlesque troupe which was known for its innovative performance art. Drawing from experience in Turkey, India and Canada, Laura has over 20 years of training in this art form. Having learned from some of the world's best including Mahmoud Reda, Fifi Abdo, Aziza, Randa Kamel, Sahra Saeeda, Rachel Brice, Tito, and Hadia, she credits her mentor Yasmina Ramzy of Arabesque Dance Company for the majority of her professional training. Performance highlights include dancing in Istanbul nightclubs, the Raganath temple in India, Canada's MuchMusic, the Tribal Massive in Las Vegas, and in Arabesque's original productions which toured across Canada.Read more

From the Business:We believe each student has been given a unique set of God-given talents, and we strive to help students recognize and celebrate those. We are particularly clear of those expectations as we mentor and train our older students to ensure that younger students can look up to positive dance role models. From the Business:Vibeat Dance Studio is a place to learn Indian Dances, such as Indian Classical (Bharatanatyam), Folk (Garba, Raas, Ghoomar, Bhangra and Giddha) and Bollywood. Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest forms of classical dances. It is a systematic structural classical dance which stands on the concrete foundation of history. It is distinguished with the colorful costumes, gorgeous jewelry and hair decoration. The main components of this dance are rhythm, posture, footwork and Mudras (hand gestures). It has an ancient sign language and body language. One has to learn sharp controlled body movement to master this dance form. It has sacred beliefs connected culturally, hence it is highly respected. It is believed that many other classical Indian dances originate from this form of dance. A high energetic, rhythmic and artistically disciplined dance improves physical and mental health enhances flexibility and stamina along with lots of fun.
