Desc : The repertoire of Bharatanatyam, like all major classical Indian dance forms, follows the three categories of performance in the Natya Shastra. These are Nritta (Nirutham), Nritya (Niruthiyam) and Natya (Natyam).Prahelika Rajagopalan is an upcoming Bharatanatyam dancer who began learning dance at the age of 4. She started training in Bharatanatyam under Smt. Santha Bhaskar, Singapore and Smt. Ambujah Thiru, Singapore. As a kid, she has given numerous performances, both solo and group presentations with Nrithyalaya Aesthetics Society. She has not only performed in NAS’s annual programs, but also in many temples and other such platforms in Singapore. She has participated and won a number of competitions and won the silver medal at SYF (Singapore Youth Festival).Prahelika moved to India and continued dance under the tutelage of guru Sri. Pandanallur Gopalakrishnan Pillai and Smt. Indu Varma. She was trained in the Tanjavur style and did her arangetram in 2005. She has also performed in a many sabhas under Smt. Indu Varma’s guidance and did a group presentation on Tyagesha Kuravanji. She has also performed the ‘Narayaneeyam’ in Chennai and Mangalore.Prahelika is currently pursuing Bharatanatyam under her guru Dr. Sujatha Mohan, a senior disciple of Dr. Padma Subramaniam. With the support and encouragement from her guru, she completed her Master Of Fine Arts (M.F.A) under Dr. Padma Subramaniam at Sastra University in 2014. She has performed a number of margams in many Sabhas in Chennai and also participated in numerous group presentations. She also started learning Nattuvangam under her guru and assisted her guru in taking class for the kids. Prahelika is one of the core dancers at Padmashree Nrithyalaya.

Desc : Kathak is one of the eight classical forms of Indian dance and is comprised of powerful movement and technique using percussive footwork and rhythms rooted in the Indian classical music system, and is juxtaposed with subtlety and grace. Also inherent in kathak is storytelling through mime and expression, drawing on the rich culture and stories of ancient India. Students will experience an introduction to the various aspects of Kathak, in a format that contextualizes the music, movement, etiquette and history that surrounds the dance form even if in the modern day. Farah Yasmeen Shaikh is an internationally touring Kathak performing artist, instructor and choreographer, and Founder and Artistic Director of Noorani Dance. A former member of the Chitresh Das Dance Company, Farah now performs her own traditional and innovative works, most notably, The Twentieth Wife based on the novel by author Indu Sundaresan. Farah is currently touring her follow up to this performance focused on the life of Mughal Empress Noor Jahan, with support from NEFA. Farah continues to split her time between the U.S. and Pakistan, performing and teaching throughout the country. Farah’s newest production in collaboration with EnActe Arts, based on the 1947 India-Pakistan Partition will premiere in 2018 presented by Z Space in San Francisco.

Desc : Shadan is a teacher, choreographer, and performer with 18 years of experience in Persian and Central Asian dances. She dances throughout the San Jose / San Francisco Bay Area as a soloist, duet, with her students, as well as other artists and musicians. Shadan is known for her expressive performances, and finds great joy in sharing her love of this graceful art form as well as Iran's rich culture. She teaches weekly dance classes for children and adults, and is available for private dance lessons. She also teaches private piano lessons for children. Shadan started her dance career in 1998, as a dancer of the Iranian Student Cultural & Aesthetic Organization at UC Davis. Upon graduation she continued performing with ISCAO dance choreographers who formed Beshkan Dance Academy, and with Club Iberia, a UC Berkeley flamenco student dance group. In 2005, she joined the prestigious Afsaneh Art and Culture Society and performed with Ballet Afsaneh at venues such as the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco for the Ethnic Dance Festival in 2009, the Ritz Carlton Hotel for a benefit event for the Encyclopedia Iranica Foundation, and at annual parades in New York City for Norooz (Persian New Year). She has studied extensively and performed with Miriam Peretz, Shahrzad Khorsandi, Ballet Afsaneh and Afsaneh Academy teachers like Hannah Romanowsky and Kristen Sague. She has completed Shahrzad Khorsandi’s course, Comprehensive Fundamentals in Persian Dance, Natalie Nayun’s intensive course on Persian dance and musicality, and continues to take workshops with renowned instructors such as Mr. Zokhrabov of the State Dance Ensemble of Azerbaijan. And now, thanks to Natalie Nayun’s Pomegranate Garden Dance online platform formed in March 2020, she teaches and learns with dance teachers around the globe.
