Rated 5.0 I was referred to Alex Freeman at Asian Indian Funeral Service The Hindu Funeral Home, NJ in April 2022 at one of the worst times in our lives. We had just lost our beloved mother and wanted to take her mortal remains to South India for cremation. It was COVID-time and we were struggling with the logistical complexities of mandatory US and Indian government regulations and documentations required to make the long journey. The local funeral home did not even have the zinc oxide-lined coffin required to transport our Mom’s remains. Our travel agent put us in touch with Alex and she was literally a Godsend. She took my unscheduled call made from the parking lot of the Phoenix funeral home, consoled me, calmed me down, walked me through all the logistical requirements, discussed a timeline, discussed the fees, and helped me pick a tentative date for our travel to India, accompanying Mom’s remains. All this in under 20 minutes! I still remember that first call – Alex was professional, calm, empathetic, knowledgeable and conversant with Indian cultural traditions. She reassured me that she would coordinate directly with the Phoenix funeral home director to get all the documentation needed locally, and that they would provide the coffin required for international transport (they actually make it at their funeral home). Following that call on a Thursday, Alex and her team worked through Good Friday and the Easter weekend, coordinating with the local funeral home, my travel agent, Air India and the Indian consulate in New York. Our mother’s mortal remains were received and handled with care and respect – they even asked me for and dressed Mom beautifully in her favorite saree. The mortician did a marvelous job. Alex personally traveled to the Consulate that Monday and they had all formalities completed by end-of-day Tuesday. Alex, Chelsea, Dawn and their respective team were professional and their compassion beyond words. Asian Indian Funeral Services, Hundu Funeral Home, took care of everything down to the most minute detail. They made our son's funeral beautiful and seamless, we never had to worry about one thing. They made themselves available to us during our time of need, for questions and guidance, helping us through the maze of paperwork and though they have other funerals and families to help, we felt like we were their only family dealing with the loss of a loved one. We will carry that with us for the rest of our lives. Its bad enough to have to bury a loved one but when your funeral services are made so seamless, you feel blessed to have that comfort.
