Air conditioner was once considered as luxury living equipment by many people. Thanks, to global warming, what was once considered as a luxury has now become a necessity. Keeping up with the diverse needs of different kind of people and workplaces, manufactures have come up with different air conditioning models that can fit into different corners of the room and keep the entire area cool.

Let us take a quick look at the different types of ACs available in the market.

Window AC

The history of window AC dates back to a time when air conditioning was commercially made available to the general public. It is one of first generation models, designed to be fit on window sills. All the necessary components of the machine like the compressor, condenser, expansion valve or coil, cooling coil and evaporator are enclosed in a single box. Installation and AC repair services are relatively less for window ACs compared to split ACs or tower ACs. They are also cheaper than their modern counterparts.

Split AC

Split ACs are one of the most popular air conditioning models available in the market and are used both for domestic as well as commercial purposes. These ACs have two units of which one is placed indoors, while the other is installed outdoors. Indoor unit absorbs the hot air and throws out cold air. The outdoor unit which houses the compressor throws out the warmth and is connected through a drain pipe and electric ducts with the indoor unit.

Tower AC

Tower ACs are rapidly becoming popular owing to their unique portable nature. They are also known as floor standing air conditioners and require very little space. Like split models, the tower AC, also has an outdoor unit which needs to be connected with the main unit. They are ideal for large rooms or auditoriums, since they have very high cooling capabilities.

Cassette AC

Cassette ACs look like a cassette and are typically installed on the ceilings. Unlike other AC models, cassette ACs, do not require any ducting and have excellent performance capability. Since they are ceiling mounted, they blend well with all type of room décor. These high end models are pretty expensive and AC repair services of cassette ACs are quite high

Ductless Mini-Split AC

Ductless mini-split ACs are very similar to split ACs. Their only difference is that the indoor unit which houses the evaporator and the cooling fans can be placed in different area depending on the need. Unlike normal split ACs, ductless models can be installed without breaking or drilling any holes on the walls or window panes.

Besides these above mentioned varieties, there are many other types of air conditioning systems available like central air conditioning and packed air conditioning for commercial purposes. Installation cost and Ac repair services expense of such models is very high.  While buying an AC unit for domestic purposes, always use a machine with high energy star ratings which would help to save money on the power consumption bill.
