About Hands Of The World

At Hands of the World we offer you hand selected, exotic Folk Art, Jewelry and Accessories from around the world. Enjoy shopping in the Pike Place Market's historic Down Under! Down the ramp from City Fish, at the base of Pine St. Hands of the World prides itself on being very aware of the conditions for craftspeople in developing countries. This venture began in 1980 while working as a volunteer in Thailand, as director of a non-profit, self-help handicraft project in a refugee camp. Then in 1982 Cynthia Hope started as a vendor at the Market Street Festival and then opening Hands of the World retail space by the end of the year. Today we try to purchase as many of our crafts as possible through cooperatives, development projects, and directly from the craftspeople. By supporting development projects and cooperatives the craftspeople receive a fair price for their labor, in addition to other valuable services such as: child and medical care, skill development, and education which will provide a better future for them and their families.

Rated 5.0 I stopped by on the off chance that I'd find a henna tattoo kit, and when I asked for help, the young woman behind the sales counter enthusiastically showed me what they had. She demonstrated a familiarity with the product and I was impressed with her service. Tons of intriguing products to peruse, and some beautiful jewelry.

Rated 5.0 This store is dangerous and amazing all in one stroke. Not to mention fair trade! The people are amazing and so helpful, unique inventory and rare finds. Perfect place to pick up a gift for someone special, also amazing jewelry!
