About Miette Culinary Studio

Miette means "little crumb" in French. The name was inspired by the restaurant where the cooking classes began, Tartine ("slice of bread") in the West Village. Miette opened in 2001.Miette Culinary Studio has 2 locations, in Greenwich Village and Little Italy, hosting hands-on cooking classes, parties & corporate team-building events. Rati Lohtia grew up in India with a cooking teacher for a mother, and developed a fervent passion for food at an early age. She has traveled the world, absorbing ideas and translating them into new and exciting dishes. Her repertoire includes original recipes that capture the tremendous offerings from all over India and blend them seamlessly with dishes popular in the West. From the deceivingly simple Samosas to the seemingly elaborate but effortless Chicken Tikka Masala, her recipes are delicious and guaranteed to work. Her goal as an instructor is to demystify Indian cooking, offer simple tricks that anyone can learn, and ensure that Indian food is enjoyable for all. She has spent over a decade parlaying her passion into teaching at the Institute of Culinary Education and at Miette. She recently conducted an Indian Street Food Workshop at the James Beard House, and was featured in the 2011 Cooking Channel TV campaign.

Rated 4.0 We received the Italian cooking class as a wedding gift and it exceeded our expectations. The cooking area is very cozy and intimate which is perfect for the family style cooking. We had an opportunity to meet new people and at the end enjoy the delicious food. We already were very familiar with the kitchen but learned so much more in this classes. All the recipes that were taught were dishes we could and definitely will make again. Overall we loved our experience and will be coming back for more classes.

Rated 5.0 I was able to take a week-long class with Chef Paul and had an amazing time! I never felt scared to roll up my sleeves and get cooking. He was patient and taught the tricks of the trade; but in a way that I could translate those tips into simple dishes even my 5-year-old would eat. The lessons have truly changed the way I cook and my outlook on life. Live with love and passion and its the spice of life!

Rated 4.0 Went to Miette today with my mom for a farm to preserve cooking class. We live out of town and were looking for a fun activity for a Sunday. We had an amazing time! We spent about 2.5 hours cooking and the last thirty minutes were spent sitting and enjoying our meal. It was a nice, intimate class with only 6 people. We made about 5? dishes, which was a lot! We went home with jars of canned beets and canned green beans as well as the recipes for all the dishes. I am definitely inspired to go home and can a TON of stuff as well as make some of the dishes we made in the class. Lastly, the chef, Lani gave us a ton of tips for general cooking that were really helpful!

Rated 5.0 One of the best evenings ever. I was in New York for a long weekend with my 14 year old son. Both of us love to cook and found Miette luckily through an online search. We arrived at 4:45 for a 5-8 French cooking class and dinner. Paul, the owner, welcomed us and the other 11 guests to a small apartment set up as a professional kitchen and dining area.
