Mela Teeyan Teej is the only event in the DMV area that is for women, run by women, and organized by women. The annual event women & girls, clad in colorful Punjabi suits, to MELA festive with Gidha,Bhangra dances, Boliyan Mrs/Miss/Ms Punjaban pageant DC. Our proudest moment was when PWCA had to add a juniors section for Miss Teeyan Punjaban because so many girls from the ages of 3- 14 wanted to participate in the pageant. All of those little girls were American born kids who wanted to learn more about their culture and wanted to showcase it in front of their loved ones. Moni Gill & Rupinder Chahal of PWCA stated, “ The goal of this Mela is to help girls, especially American born ones, to dig deep into their heritage and fall in love with their virsa.
