Smt. Nirmala Rajesh is a New Jersey-based, Carnatic vocalist, violinist and the Director of Sruthiswara School Of Music who was initiated into this art at a very young age. Her many years of childhood instruction in vocal music led her to the pursuit of a B.A. degree from Queen Mary’s Arts College in Chennai. She is currently learning from Vidwan. A.S.Murali a senior disciple of vidwan P.S.Narayanaswamy. During her academic tenure, she came under the tutelage of the late Sri. K.R. Kedarnathan (disciple of the late legend, Sri. Semmangudi SrinivasaIyer) and wife, Smt. Meera Kedarnathan. Since then, Nirmala has continued learning vocal music from a few different teachers such as Sri. Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Vittal Ramamurthy, Ms. A. Kanyakumari, Smt. Sashi Balija, Master Thakkesi and has subsequently started learning Carnatic violin from Smt. Radhika Devarajan and now continuing under Smt. Hemamalini (disciple of Ms. A. Kanyakumari) for the last several years. She has participated in many music competitions, was featured in Sun TV’s “SaptaSwarangal” program and was even named once as “Best Teenage Artist”. Additionally, Nirmala Rajesh and her husband Rajesh Nathan have given a many vocal duet concerts to date, the first of which was during the 2012 December music festival season in Chennai, India.Aside from being a student and a performer, Nirmala has also been a teacher of vocal Carnatic music both in person and online to a large group of students over the past 12 years, which included a stint at Vedic Vidyalayain Hillsborough, NJ while serving as its Director of Music. Professionally, Nirmala holds two (2) Master’s degrees in Banking and Financial Services Management and had worked in the banking and investment sector for 12 years.
