About American Indian Center

From the beginning, AIC has been a brave experiment in community self-determination. We envision the American Indian Center as the authentic primary resource for urban American Indian culture, and a welcoming home for all American Indians. Located in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood, the American Indian Center hosts a number of activities, celebrations, and learning and volunteer opportunities. Our annual powwow is a local favorite! To promote the fellowship among Indian people of all Tribes living in metropolitan Chicago, and to create bonds of understanding and communication between Indians and non-Indians in this city.

Rated 5.0 The American Indian Center was home to many before I came along and really got involved, but the committment, the families, staff/volunteers/sponsors, the dedication to helping so many to this very day, is truly amazing. That is what Native people do, if you want it, they are there for you, or you may find that you are needed for a purpose, reason, or a season, just to help out. My children found out just how big community/family was. So I have to say Yaw^ko, for so many years of good times, difficult discussions, and giving myself and so many others a place to be, to volunteer, to work, to create, to excel, to learn, to just be, to accept getting scolded when needed, for forgiveness and so much more. You can really learn quality skills to help you endure eveyday life. I love a quote I read one time, "Say what you mean, but don't say it mean." Enjoy life, Create Solutions, and be a part of change, in a good way. I will be back periodically, as this is my and my husbands time to begin a new chapter in life. Prayers to those truly interested in carrying on the hard work.
