Ananda Yoga
Ananda Washington is Comprised of Six Separate Organizations and Has Members Throughout the Region and State. Inspired by Paramhansa Yogananda (author of Autobiography of a Yogi) and first founded in California in 1968 by one of his direct disciples, Swami Kriyananda, Ananda’s work grew steadily in California, then expanded to Oregon and then Seattle. Ananda Seattle initially began as a meditation group meeting in a member’s home on 20th Ave NE (near 70th) in Seattle. This was around 1982. (Membership grew elsewhere, nationally and internationally at the same time.) During this time the fledgling Ananda meditation group in Seattle was visited by Ananda teachers from the original and (still) largest intentional community near Nevada City, CA: Ananda World Brotherhood Village.
