Bengali Cuisine is the culinary style that originated in Bengal, a region in the eastern part of India. , Not just the people of West Bengal, even the natives of neighboring Bangladesh are equally fond of Bengali food along with other regions which have a large Bengali population.

With a varied combination of fishes, vegetables and cereals served with rice as a staple diet, it is also known for its sweet yet sometimes spicy flavors, including mouth watering desserts. It is the only cuisine from the Indian Subcontinent that traditionally developed a multi-course tradition. Bearing a resemblance with the modern style of French Cuisine, Bengali cuisine is also served course-wise rather than serving all the dishes together.

Bengali cuisine is also known for its fabulous use of paanch phoron (the five essential spices namely mustard, fenugreek seed, cumin seed, aniseed and black cumin seed). There’s even a bitter side to this (famously) sweet cuisine, the “shukto” or the bitter vegetable preparation(bitter gourd with other vegetables).
