Carnatic Vocal Classes By Hamsa Raghuvir

Rated 5.0 My 10-yr daughter has been learning Carnatic vocal music from Hamsa for the last two years - initially in person in Portland and more recently via Skype. My 7-year old also just started learning from Hamsa. Although our family doesn’t have a classical music background, Hamsa has made Carnatic music very approachable while expecting a high level of rigor and perfection. She is very creative in her methods of teaching and has made learning music a joyous endeavor. Within a couple of years, Hamsa has imparted a strong foundation of Carnatic music theory while challenging my daughter with complex compositions. Hamsa herself is a very accomplished singer from an illustrious musical lineage. We are very fortunate to have Hamsa guide our kids on their musical journey and wholeheartedly recommend her! Rated 5.0 Hamsa is a very talented singer and a dedicated teacher. She hails from the famous Sri Tyagaraja guru parampara and is a direct disciple of late Shree. Lalgudi Jayaraman.Hamsa's deep knowledge in music and her impresssive ability to impart it in digestive chunks has really brought out the best in my son, a third grader. My son learnt from her in person when she was in Portland and now continues classes over skype. She spends ample amount of time on the fundamentals and insists greatly on Shruthi and tala perfection. Her creative graphical notation for the gamakas is very intuitive for the kids to grasp and remember complex slides/transition between the notes. As parents, we are very grateful to have Hamsa as our son's music teacher and glad that we made the right choice.
