Ethanda, From the 1940s for generations my family used to do wooden chekku oil production units in Erode, Tamil Nadu, INDIA. But from the 1980s my father's generation suffered immense loss after all the oil refineries came in market with lucrative prizes and almost the traditional way came to nil. My father stopped doing production and having built expertise in managing accounts, tax filing etc. - he managed his life as an accountant for oil refineries. Every day my dad comes home and worries about the quality of product these kids are consuming without realizing the marketing and back end process involved. He often talks to me about how packaging makes difference. Even after the supermarket became lucrative in the 90s my dad used to take me in his small bicycle and take my help to pick quality products from small shops in the corners of the town. After multiple rounds of brainstorming, we decided to start ethanda (in tamil local usage it means, "this is what i'm truly looking for") This is our first step towards bringing in authentic products to our friends and family doorstep. We know not all businesses succeed, we don't have a high budget to market, not a huge margin to give lucrative discounts. Ask yourself a simple question, how can someone give a discount on something and what far? After COVID the online grocery market has more penetration and technology is available at an affordable cost. We believe now or never and based on the fact my family is in Houston - we want to serve the Houston community to start with.
