Viswas Chitnis began learning Sitar at the age of 15. He received his training at the Ali Akbar College of Music under the guidance of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He is the founder of North Carolina Raga Revival as well as a School of Rag Indian Music Academy located in Chapel Hill NC and Brooklyn NY. He received training on the Indian violin known as Esraj by the late Sarangi Maestro Pt Ramesh Misra.Shabass Sounds formed in Jan of 2016 as progressive quartet that explored folk, eastern, and western classical music. Since then it has evolved into a quintet that is exploring the genres of jazz, soul, and rhythm and blues. Its current lineup includes:
