In 2008, a group of like-minded lovers of Indian classical art forms volunteered to form the IAC Connect. The founding members included volunteers, artists, and non-artists, sharing a love of classical music and dance and passionate about the need to preserve, promote the rich cultural history of Indian classical music and dance to, and among the communities in which they lived. From the Business:AZ Goshala was started in April 2010 by Dr. P.N. Misra and Mr. Hari Moorthy. Originally, they bought the first 2 cows from slaughterhouses in 2011. They housed them in the same place our cows still are and decided to spread awareness about the importance of cows. From 2010 onward, several families started hosting events at the sanctuary to gain a platform. Inspired by Ganapati Maharaja, a disciple of Prabhupada – founder of ISKCON, the non-profit was created and structured by dedicated volunteers. The word Arsha means that which is from the Rishis - the great sages of ancient India. The word Vidya means knowledge. Gurukulam refers to a residential center for learning with the teacher. Thus, Arsha Vidya Gurukulam is a place where one learns the knowledge imparted by the Rishis. Established in 1986 by Swami Dayananda Saraswati, the Gurukulam is patterned after the ancient gurukulams of India. The Gurukulam offers Indians and Westerners alike an opportunity to study the profound spiritual knowledge of the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Brahmasutras, and other classical Vedic texts in English in the USA. Located on 14 acres in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania, a serene setting in the Pocono Mountains, the Gurukulam offers short- and long-term programs of study for guest and resident students of all ages.
