The color palette has always enticed me as a young child. Falling in love with art at a very tender age and being trained in it, I feel solace and joy even today. Offering Art classes is my passion. Trained at the School of Art Institute of Chicago and although holding an MS in Computer Science and working for a while, I decided to pursue my passion and take a step forward. Somehow down the lane, fabrics interested me. Coming from Bengal, India, I have always been interested in Bengal Folk Art. I visualized colors and patterns and gradually took interest in what weavers create. Their artistic skills fueled my imagination. One thing led to another and soon after Paisley Arts and Fabrics was born. I don't design the fabrics though, although I wish I could someday. I collect many of these from rural Bengal, very rural where the red roads meet the sky. The weavers work intensely several days, sometimes even several weeks to create one piece of such fabric to drape us. Some of these pieces have been created from pure bio products and natural dyes are from carrot or marigold where some experimentation was made. Rejuvenation of almost lost technologies like fish-scale, hair- braid provides a contemporary look and feel also leveraging techniques from other communities like tribal "madurkathi". The handloom pieces can give you a simple yet elegant look whereas some are purely traditional and gorgeous. It depends on what your mood is set up for.
