Swararaaga School of Music, founded by Carnatic vocalist and educator Sowmya Subramanian, is dedicated to promoting Indian Carnatic music in the San Jose, California area. The school offers vocal Carnatic lessons with a focus on voice culture, music theory, and practical training for students of all ages and skill levels. ?Sowmya Subramanian was introduced to Carnatic music at an early age by her mother, Dr. Revathy Subramanian, a Ph.D. in music. She furthered her training under the tutelage of renowned Guru, Sangeeta Choodamani, (Late) Smt. Suguna Purushothaman. Sowmya has participated and won prizes in music competitions conducted by prestigious music sabhas in Chennai, such as the Music Academy and Indian Fine Arts. She has also performed on All India Radio, Chennai, and regularly features in Chennai's December music festival. After moving to the Bay Area in 2008, Sowmya has performed at various venues, including SR Fine Arts, Bay Area Margazhi festival, and local temples.
