A pediatric dentist completes two to three years of additional specialized training (after the required four years of dental school) to prepare them for treating a wide variety of children’s and teens dental problems. They are also trained and qualified to care for patients with special needs. In order to prevent dental problems, your child should see a pediatric dentist when the first tooth appears, or no later than his/her first birthday. We take different approaches based on our patients’ age when dealing with their behavior, guiding their dental growth and development, and helping them avoid future dental problems. An orthodontist is a specialist in the movement of teeth and the correction of jaw problems. In addition to college and dental school, an orthodontist completes three years of intensive specialty training at a graduate school approved by the ADA. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children, regardless of their orthodontic progression, receive an orthodontic evaluation by age seven. Early examination allows orthodontists to determine the best time for orthodontic treatment, and if necessary, to begin. Our orthodontists will perform a thorough examination, review findings and discuss appropriate treatment options. If a patient is not ready to begin treatment the orthodontist will recommend free periodic recall appointments to monitor a child’s growth and development.
