About Dr. Prashanth Ramachandran

Dr. Prashanth Ramachandran is a neurologist who cares for patients with a range of neuroinflammatory disorders (conditions involving nervous tissue inflammation), including those resulting from infections, autoimmune diseases and genetic conditions. He specializes in treating inflammation affecting the brain and spinal cord, and has a particular interest in seeking answers for patients with complex or difficult-to-diagnose conditions. Ramachandran's research focuses on using advanced DNA sequencing technologies to improve diagnostics for patients with neuroinflammatory conditions. He is also interested in neurological health care equity and in particular finding ways to implement new medical technologies in low-resource settings. Ramachandran earned his medical degree at Monash University School of Medicine in Melbourne, Australia. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, followed by a residency in neurology at St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. He completed a fellowship in neuroimmunology and neuroinfectious diseases at UCSF.
