Yellow Cab Affiliation Dispatch

Rated 5.0 A month ago, my taxi driver offered to mail me a highlife CD from Ghana I was feelin' on the ride home (Sonya Spencer, get on it!), and he actually did. Last week, my taxi driver regaled me with stories about his insano divorce from some nutter ex, then got me all chocked up about how lonely his nights were and touched me with the simple sincerity and kindness of his goodbye: "I wish you goodness in life." Yesterday, my taxi driver quoted Cornell West, Nietzsche, and Oscar Wilde in our ten minute ride home. And had Tupac playing on the radio. A ride with a side of real talk, reason 982 I love this city.

Rated 5.0 This is not a rant. This is an accolade. On Veteran's Day with no school and time on our hands, we decided to implement long discussed plans to identify and visit the shortest street in Chicago. It's McDermott Street. 1400 West and 2900-2940 South. For those of you familiar with Chicago's grid, that should seem easy enough. I imagined it in my mind's eye, mapped it on Google and we set off to see what this curious anomaly would look like. And, we couldn't find it. I'd miscalulated the proper L stop, it seemed. We had what I thought initially was too far to walk with the rain beginning, so we ducked into the Bridgeport Coffee House and called Yellow Cab.

Rated 3.0 Hit or miss. That's how I would classify this cab company. Instead of waiting outside for a cab, I like to use my Taxi Magic app on my Droid. Cab company of choice since I have been using this for the last year and a half has been Yellow Cab. For the most part, I like the service. They show up within 15-20 minutes of me calling. If it takes longer, it usually means that I have not used my noggin to plan ahead - especially if it's a crazy night like Halloween or something. The only time I have been completely irritated with my driver was yesterday. It was the rare occasion that I was formally dressed for a wedding, complete with high heels. The driver came within 15 minutes of me scheduling one through Taxi Magic. But instead of pulling up to my building, he parked across the street at a gas station and flashed his lights for me to cross the street.
