About Connecticut Music

Joe Roberts Sr. began his love affair with the music business in 1937 at the age of 16 when he opened Jolie Music on Kings Highway in Brookyln. Already an accomplished accordionist at 17, he moved to California to pursue his career as a performer. In 1945, after serving his country during World War II entertaining the troops as a member of the USO, he returned to the states and settled in Stamford. With his partner Peter Mala he opened J & P Accordion Headquarters, which became Connecticut Music in 1949 after Peter was tragically killed in a car accident. With his new partner Ray Taranto, a renowned band instrument repair technician, they forged a personal and professional relationship that spanned some 35 years until they retired in 1984. Joe’s sons, Joe Jr., Pete and Mike purchased the store in 1984. Joe Sr. continued to come to the store everyday until he passed away in 2013 at 93 years old.

Rated 5.0 Havig a quality music shop locally is priceless since i perform live. I only went in for a capo and tuner and picks but they spent time with me making sure i found exactly what i was looking for. He only had one snark tuner left as his floor model for tuning the guitars in the showroom which is what I wanted. Sold it to me at a nice discount with a fresh battery! Couldn't be happier! Will be using this shop for all my music needs! Thanks again!
