Higgins Event Rentals, originally founded as United Rent-All, opened in 1982 as a general rental store in Etobicoke’s Royal York Plaza. Founded by Denis and Peggy Higgins, the company’s initial warehouse was an old department store and was filled with items as diverse as chain saws, cement mixers, baby cribs and a small selection - only a fraction of the business - of dishes, glassware, cutlery, linen, tables and chairs. Denis had recently left a career as a corporate executive, and never had been comfortable with machines and hardware.
