About Mathew Poovan Sitarist

Mathew Poovan is a rising sitar player in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Mathew was first introduced to the sitar in high school and has since studied sitar, tabla, and North Indian classical vocal under the guidance of his guru, Ustad Hamid Hossain. Mathew teaches sitar students to whom he passes on his knowledge and love of music. He is also the Creative Director at Aimrec, a premiere independent Indian Classical Music record label. He helps launch new albums, organizes concerts, and works on products such as Sangeetpedia. He is also one of the producers of the world fusion band, Melodic Intersect.
