About The Detroit Institute Of Indian Music

Dr. Rajan Sachdeva is an accomplished sitarist who plays in both the gayaki and tantrakari (vocal and instrumental) styles. His major contributions have been in the field of Indian classical music as an instructor, lecturer and performer. The primary mission of the Detroit Institute of Indian Music is to offer expert level instruction on Indian music performance and theory. Students receive consistent and meaningful direction based on their individual needs, abilities and talents. All classes are taught by the Institute's founder and director, Dr. Rajan Sachdeva. A wide variety of classes are offered at all levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) for the following: Vocal, Harmonium and Keyboard, Sitar, Tabla and Sarod. In special cases where a technical knowledge of an instrument exists (e.g. how to play notes), Indian music can be learned, e.g. Violin, Flute and Clarinet.
