About Sitar Maestro Ikhlaq

A student will learn about raga and its elements; alap, jor, jhalla, compositions, taans, and how to play in taal. In addition we will go over microtonal nuances of raga (shrutis) and the correct usage of them. You will also learn anatomy of raga, the proper development of the chalan (melodic form), how tune sitar by ear, differences between just intonation and equal tempered scales, and how to play Gayaki (vocal representation on sitar). We will cover basic and advanced techniques of playing and performing, as well as maintenance of the instrument, and how to connect with the music spiritually.
