Rated 5.0 This review is based on the biryani i had at Bawarchi EDH. Every time i get the stuff i end up 'committing biryani!'. Its and inside joke we have about ordering the biryani. Its so good you eat the whole thing and have major coma afterwords... ;)

Rated 4.0 I went to Bawarchi on Friday (3/25) with my 2 sons (8 & 14). We have been living in Sacramento area for the past decade or so and always lamented about the lack of good India restaurants in this area. Yeah there are several places (Ruchi, lately Peacock to name a few). Over the past 20 years we have lived all over the US and been to several Indian Restaurants. Majority of the Indian restaurants are predominantly Mughlai cuisine and does not represent the Authentic Indian Food. Growing up in the east coast of India and going to school in the India’s west coast, I love the Indo-Chinese cuisine. I did not come across any decent options during the time I lived here. Looking at the menu of Bawarchi, it looked tempting and promising. So when we walking into the restaurant on the Friday evening, it is fairly busy but we got seated quickly. We ordered Chicken 65, Shrimp 65, and Chilly chicken as appetizers and they ended up being our entrees too. All three dishes are delicious and hit the right spot. It remained me of the food I had in India. However, since this restaurant is famous for its Biryani, I ordered Shrimp Biryani and my son had Garlic nan and Baingan Barta. We were so full with the appetizers, we ended up taking these home. The Biryani was spicy but had outstanding flavor. The reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because (A) The nan is not soft and felt more like a Papadum (B) The service was efficient and quick but our server barely cracked a smile and we did not feel welcome. Having said that, we will definitely go back.

Rated 5.0 Excellent location. Nice ambience. Curteous staff. Weekends get crazy and orders get messed up or delayed, but they like to make up for it and apologise. The food tastes great.

Rated 5.0 We had a Diwali get together for the staff of Mylapore yesterday. A quick poll among our staff was conducted about the choice of food and pretty much everyone wanted Goat Biryani from Bawarchi. I paid a visit to Bawarchi on Sunday morning and ordered a Large Tray of Goat Biryani. I wanted it to be made in a certain specific way. A true culinary artist would easily understand what I wanted. The chef at Bawarchi clearly understood my needs. I was promised a pick up time of 8:30 pm. I arrived promptly at 8:30 pm and my food was ready. The biryani had just then been removed from "Dum". They transported the steaming hot Biryani to my car and the entire walkway was filled with the aroma of Biryani. My staff enjoyed the Biryani to their heart's content and were praising the high quality of food all the way. Going forward we will always cater from Bawarchi for our get togethers. Thank you.
