At the edge of Washington Square Park, an assortment of NYU students, South Asian expats, and downtown hipsters crowd around Thiru Kumar’s food cart waiting for their daily dosa, the vegetarian crêpe from South India. The grinning, thickly mustached Kumar works his small grill like a hyperactive D.J., pouring batter, spreading on curried potatoes, and sprinkling a crunchy dice of carrots and peppers (the Pondicherry masala dosa). When the batter is cooked through, Kumar folds it with an artist’s flair, effortlessly lifting the ethereally thin lentil-and-rice-flour wrapper from the grill, then chops it into sections and serves it with a gingery coconut chutney and a small tub of spicy lentil soup.

Rated 5.0 This guy is amazing!!! High quality food and consistent for as long as I can remember in the NYU/Washington Square community. 100% vegan - and insanely tasty. The drumsticks and samosas are incredible and are prepared quickly. If you are looking for a full meal, the dosas are huge and very filling. He also has very tasty lentil soup and always greets his customers with a smile. I am a huge fan.

Rated 5.0 For hot fresh dosa $7 cant be beat. It is filling. perfect lunch size. For $3 a samosa addditional. I dont think Ill get the special again, it includes veggies. Ill just get the plain dosa and ask him to make it spicy. For lunch plain dosa 6 + samosa 3 = $9 not bad. and filling. and in the middle of the park. Thursdays i want to come back for the noodles - which is only offered thursdays
