Rated 5.0 This is the place that turned my boyfriend onto Indian food, and for that alone I am grateful. It has such an elegant, charming atmosphere, I think that may be my favorite part about the place. It's in kind of a strange location... the bottom floor of an apartment building, which mostly JHU students seem to live in. Seeing a kid walk by with a load of laundry on my way to a nice restaurant was a little strange, but don't let it put you off. If it's nice weather, you really have to sit outside. The outdoor dining gives you a great view of their garden, and the patio furniture and tiles and everything just puts together this picturesque setting. The food itself is good, if not a little standard. I went here to celebrate my mother selling her home, and everyone enjoyed their meals. I'd love to come back again some time.

Rated 5.0 The Ambassador Dining Room has long been my father's favorite restaurant, so I have been coming here for as long as I can remember. Usually when I return to restaurants that seemed very special during childhood, I'm sourly disappointed to find that they're not in fact as special as the memory I've since conjured in my head. This one, however, is more magical than I remembered it being as a child and while it is a bit pricey, the fine Indian dining is well worth the price. Located inside a historic apartment building, it's not surprising that all throughout my childhood memories, I felt like I was eating like royalty. My favorite time of year to enjoy the Ambassador is definitely in the summer when the patio's full-length windows are open to provide perfect views of the amazing garden (while still enjoying the air-conditioning). Somehow, it's almost as amazing in the wintertime, while you still get the patio dining experience without facing the bitter cold. As for the food, I give the Ambassador much credit for instilling in me a love of Indian cuisine. Both the vegetable and meat samosas are amazing for appetizers; I often wish I could just order them but then I'd certainly be missing out on the entrees. While I typically opt for the tandoori chicken, you really can't go wrong. It is especially important to note how great of a restaurant this is if you have vegetarian diners in your party-- there seems to be just as many vegetarian options as meat options. While it is more expensive than the average restaurant I review, it is definitely a place to splurge if you're looking for a place for any type of special occasion.

Rated 5.0 Most remarkable place Ive ever eaten, it was night, we sat outside, the servers treated us in a way that reminded me of "The Butler" just people who respect their career, looks like a handsome family runs the restaurant. Everything we had was good. My date had some sort of vegetable medley, I choose Lamb vandoori? which was a curry sauce. Extra pita bread should be ordered, we got pita with the onion, I would suggest trying another pita. The mojito seemed a bit heavy on something but I went for another so that tells you it was pretty good, and my date had the same and thought the mojito was great. It was a nice thing to walk to the fountain... for some reason I expected it to lead to some secret garden, but it is just a nice spot to chill on the many benches circling the fountain, just really astounded.

Rated 4.0 Came here with a group of 12 for brunch. Got seated at a beautiful round table outside on the patio. The patio was gorgeous! The food was delicious particularly the chicken tikka masala, naan, and palak paneer. Brunch was about $30 each including tip and included unlimited Indian food, and drinks (grey goose, belvedere) along with sangria, mimosas, etc. Left very satisfied. Great food and atmosphere and will definitely come back again. The place handled having several large parties very well.

Rated 5.0 I love the ambassador, everything from the decor to the outdoor patio, its all seemingly perfect. My experiences here has always been with its lunch buffet, but never once would I regreat a visit. The food options at the buffet vary from fish to chicken, rice to rice pudding, there might have been beef too. I know I feel in love with the curry fish. I would normally rate a place like this 3 or 4 stars, but the customer service here is always outstanding. Even as far as to give a cup of coffee for free, and make sure the seats were comfortable. That's enough to make me say this place is amazing.

Rated 5.0 One of my favorite restaurants! My visit last night was incredible, as always. I started off with the signature cocktail, which was super refreshing and easy to drink. I usually like to try different things on a menu, but I admit to have ordered the Crab Malabar my past two visits, because it is THAT good. Huge pieces of backfin crab, tossed with fresh corn and tomatoes, served with creamed spinach and rice. I would also recommend the Tandoori Plater, which gives you a taste of different kebab meats. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this restaurant, especially to someone who may not be familiar with Indian food, because the menu is very approachable, and there is a variety of dishes to choose from. Thank you for another great experience!

Rated 5.0 Best Indian food in Baltimore hands down. It's really nice inside and though I haven't eaten outside (yet) I hear that's awesome. It's a little hard to find the right entrance and it's in a really weird location (inside a condo/apartment building??) but once you figure out where you're going, it's fine.

Rated 4.0 I've had many friends tell me about the Ambassador Dining Room so myself and a friend went for Baltimore Restaurant Week. Finding the location was difficult because it was so dark on the street. They do have complementary valet parking, just pull into the driveway. Inside the restaurant it smelled delicious! The food was great. I ordered the vegetable samosa, crab malabar and chocolate cake. The first two courses had great flavoring but the chocolate cake was disappointing. I'm not sure what the original prices would have been but I plan to return in the summer for brunch. The staff was welcoming and let us stay long after we finished eating. I'll definitely be returning.

Rated 5.0 Always a great departure from the same night out dining. Kir Singh runs a great kitchen and provides a great experience for any diner. Indian food the way it should be in a classic old world setting. Summer is spectacular and the best outdoor space in Baltimore, but winter is a warm and cozy setting. We hadn't been in years and it was a pleasure to return.

Rated 5.0 Beautiful indoor/outdoor atmosphere, rarely over crowded and great food :) I always go to the lunch buffet and am never disappointed. Its about $12 on weekdays and on weekends its more pricey at about $22 but that includes unlimited drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic like chi tea) and most times they also have a omelet station for those who are not into Indian cuisine (but call ahead to inquire about this). Its a great introduction to Indian food for any friends you may have that are skeptical of it, (esp if you know they have an omelet to fall back on) and believe me everyone I have taken has fallen in love! The alcoholic drinks are serve yourself which is fantastic as well, so you can be in and out in 30 min or take 2 hours.

Rated 5.0 I moved out of Baltimore for several years. This was one place that I really missed and in 7 years they still have great food. The atmosphere is also elegant and the service is great. I would like if they had a vegetarian sample type plate. So I could taste a little bit of everything.

Rated 5.0 I've been here at least 30+ times. I have been coming here for 15 years and the food has always left me feeling this is THE best Indian restaurant in the United States. And I have been to Indian restaurants in 10 different states. The ambiance alone makes this worth 5 stars. Not your typical hope in the wall or mom and pop local joint. The price is worth it. The food is worth it. The setting, especially the fireplaces and fountain are worth it. Kir and His brother have made a name for themselves in Baltimore that has never required advertising because it's that f***ing good. Valet too on busy nights.

Rated 4.0 Great atmosphere. Main course of chicken curry was tasty. The spinach was so-so. Triple chocolate cake was average but the cardamom ice cream was the bomb. Service was prompt. Enjoyed eating with view of garden and outdoor atmosphere.

Rated 5.0 Perfect. Mid-week. Spring. Patio. Lunch. Worth penetrating the apartment building lobby to find the restaurant hidden within. The chana masala is without equal. Cold salads and the dessert bar did not disappoint. Fresh naan and courtly service made it that much easier for the exquisite surroundings to impress. A perfectly delightful experience.

Rated 4.0 Ambassador Dining Room has the most upscale, beautiful settings found in an Indian restaurant (in Baltimore...or anywhere). Wonderful garden with open airiness in the summers, and closed off with cozy fireplace in the winters...this is a great place for formal dinners or even romantic date nights. Ambience really reminds me of colonial British clubs that are found throughout India and their staff are always courteous and helpful. The food tends to be on the milder spice level, their buffet has a wide spread which is usually quite delicious. I go to Ambassador for their ambience as much as their food.

Rated 5.0 My sister introduced me to this FANTABULOUS restaurant! Must try: samosas, chicken tikka, garlic naan, spinach anything!!, the chai tea is to DIE FOR!! And the toasted coconut ice cream! Ambience and service is stellar! I'd eat here every month!!

Rated 5.0 Love the outdoor seating area, and the buffet was delectable! Let me just say, it was very hard to find the Ambassador Dining Room. We went in from the back on accident and almost (nearly) decided to climb into the garden to get to the dining room. (good thing we didn't!) The dining room is very ornate (honestly a little dark) and has plenty of seating. My friend and I chose to sit right next to the garden on the patio. We came for the lunch buffet which is around $20. I found the buffet very satisfying, as it had everything I would normally find in my favorite Indian buffet back home, but what I enjoyed the most were the chickpeas! They were really well-cooked and weren't overly seasoned (which brought out the natural taste of chickpeas). Although I am not an expert with Indian food, I think that this restaurant really stuck with a more "home-made" approach to the food because they didn't add any heavy creams like other Indian restaurants typically do. The lunch buffet satisfied my taste buds and didn't leave me with the heavy/sick feeling I normally get after eating Indian food. I think the dinner prices are definitely more expensive, so I would suggest coming for the lunch buffet, and you will also have a nice, brightly lit view of the beautiful gardens.

Rated 5.0 The best Indian food in Baltimore. During the weekend they have an awesome buffet with bottomless Sangria included. It's one of my favorites whenever I'm in town.

Rated 5.0 Found this lovely restaurant on the recommendation of a local, and was not disappointed! Sat out on the lovely patio, the food was amazing, and the service was a quick and attentive! Thanks for the great evening!

Rated 5.0 This Uber Indian restaurant is nestled in a quiet street with an additional closed patio (more like a verandah) dining area that opens into a beautiful garden. We went for the lunch around 2:00 pm on a Saturday and enjoyed a quite family meal in a great ambience. Buffet selections are biased for the non-vegetarians - an indication that the place caters for the western palate. Don't expect authentic curry flavors here; however, If you enjoy muted spices then you would like their preparations. Lack of veggie choices on the Buffett was more than made up by very attentive service. The staff offered to augment the Buffet with additional veggie entries from the menu for us. We took up their offer and ordered Kadai Paneer. For breads they offered a good selection of freshly cooked choices. To top it, they also served a couple of freshly fried Samosas. Rice pudding and chocolate cake were the two dessert choices that day. Buffet also included an excellent eliachi (cardamom) tea. Around $17 per person ($25 with unlimited drinks) for weekend buffet appeared fair for what they to offer.

Rated 5.0 Amazing Indian restaurant! Food is different from other typical Indian restaurants. I highly recommend the lunch buffet! The naan is soft and delicious, as are the chicken, fish, and chick pea curries. The chocolate cake is also very decadent. The best part is the ambiance of the outdoor seating near the beautiful garden. I highly recommend this place.

Rated 5.0 "Weird" location? What is it you don't understand about HISTORIC BUILDING, Brunhilde? This place is simply lovely, with fires roaring in the winter and flowing fountains in the summer, (when you can dine in the garden) and dusky waiters that smell like sandalwood. the food is good, too, you yelping heathens.

Rated 4.0 Ambassador dining room will always have a special place in my heart. I started coming here at least six years ago and I enjoy it especially for their lunch buffet. Sometimes the dishes are as hot as they should be but they are still very tasty. A beautiful and headed location it's nice for a date night with the white tablecloth and the well-dressed servers. This place is more of an experience but it's very fun to go to and you would have some great food to go along with it.

Rated 3.0 Our friends are fanatics for Indian food, and we've been to several in the Baltimore area with them. We had heard many things about The Ambassador Dinning Room, mostly positive, so on a recent weekend night we decided to try it. Street parking was not a problem in the quiet neighborhood around Hopkins. When you enter, you are in a plush apartment building. A few steps up from the lobby os the restaurant. It is warm, luxurious and classy all at once. You are seated and presented with menus by a well dressed waiter. You would expect all of this luxury to come at a price, and it does . We ordered 3 vegetarian dinners and one shrimp dinner, to share. We also ordered two of their breads. When the food arrives, you will be somewhat disappointed by the small portions, given the high prices compared to other restaurants in the area. Ex: the shrimp dish was $25. How many shrimp would you expect for $25? How about 3. Granted, they were larger shrimp, but seriously? 3 shrimp? For $25?? The description of the food does not indicate the spice level. Some of the dishes were very hot, others were very mild. The bill 43 vegetarian dinners, one shrimp dinner, and two flat breads came to well over $100. We don't mind spending good money for good food, fugly laughed at night dealing then we had paid mostly for the setting of the restaurant, not the food.

Rated 3.0 Not actually the best food but fun for an all-you-can-eat AND all-you-can-drink weekend brunch. Call ahead for a reservation since it fills up on the weekends with large groups of college students. Essentially it's $31 per person (including tax) for an Indian buffet. Again, this is not up there on my list for best Indian food, but it's decent enough and there is a lot of it...rice, naan, all types of chicken in sauces, fritters, saag, chickpeas, mango chutney, and so on. Remember to pace yourself... Then there is also a bar where you can make yourself unlimited mimosas and blood marys. It's always fun and a real experience that you should try at least once!

Rated 3.0 5 stars for the pleasant friendly waiter and the excellent service! 3 stars for the food and prices. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and it is a fancy one. The prices felt a bit too expensive even for a fancy place like this one. Most of their meat curries were $27. And for a $20 biryani, it doesn't come with a gravy or raita on the side. Raita is an extra $4.95. I started with a mango lassi, mulligatawny soup and had chicken biryani with chicken cheera curry. Soup was not very impressive, tasted a bit stale. Biryani was mild and close to bland. It had broccoli which is not a very common vegetable in India and I don't understand why the restaurants in the US feel compelled to add it to their rice dishes! That too, to a biryani, especially a chicken biryani. It does not add any special flavor to the dish, moreover spoils the authenticity of the dish. It always has been one of my pet peeves. Chicken cheera curry was a spinach based chicken curry which again was very mild. Mango lassi with a hint of elaichi was my favorite part of the meal. I felt that it was served with too much ice, but by the time I was done with my food, the ice melted perfectly without watering down the lassi.

Rated 5.0 I dined with a party of 5 at the Ambassador last night. For a change we decided to share a number of entries so we each had a nice sample of the different foods and favors that we love coming here for. I realize that last month marked the 20th anniversary of my first visit in August 1996 to the Ambassador restaurant. I don't know how they do it but the food has been consistently superb and I have eaten here in excess of 200 times. It keeps me coming back and sharing " my spot" with my clients and friends.
